Importing a LinkedIn profile into my sourcing via its URL: how it works and what to do if it fails

How to import a talent into a Kalent sourcing from a LinkedIn profile URL, and how to unblock an import that fails or seems stuck.

Written by Vincent Maillard de la Morandais

Kalent lets you import a LinkedIn profile into a sourcing from its profile URL (for example https://www.linkedin.com/in/jean-dupont-12345/). This is useful when you've manually spotted a candidate on LinkedIn and want to add them to one of your sourcings without rerunning a full search.

This article explains how it works and, more importantly, what to do if the import fails or seems stuck.

How to import a LinkedIn profile via its URL

  1. Copy the URL of the LinkedIn profile you want to add (from LinkedIn, Sales Navigator, or Recruiter — the URL should point to the public profile, like linkedin.com/in/...).

  2. In your Kalent sourcing, use the Import via LinkedIn URL option.

  3. Paste the URL and start the import.

1. Be patient: importing a profile can take time

The import isn't always instant. Kalent needs to fetch the profile's information (career, experience, contact info when available) from LinkedIn, which can take several seconds to several minutes depending on the enrichment queue and the size of the profile.

Before concluding the import is stuck:

  • Wait for the loading to fully complete. As long as a progress indicator is shown or the profile is marked "importing", the process is running.

2. Up front, check your LinkedIn account is properly connected

The most common cause of an import that fails or never starts is an invalid LinkedIn connection — Kalent needs your LinkedIn session to fetch the profile's information.

  1. Go to Settings → Messaging.

  2. Check that your LinkedIn account (or LinkedIn Recruiter / Sales Navigator) appears with the Connected status — the button should be red and labeled "Disconnect".

  3. If it isn't connected, reconnect it. See our article Why does my LinkedIn account disconnect? for the full procedure (Cookies / Recruiter).

  4. Once reconnected, retry the import by pasting the URL again.

3. If you see an explicit error, send us a screenshot

If the import shows an explicit error message ("Import cancelled", "Profile not found", a technical error, any error code), we need more context to help you efficiently.

  • Take a full screenshot of your screen with the error visible — not just the error popup, but also the sourcing in question, the LinkedIn URL you were trying to import, and any visible progress indicator.

  • Send the screenshot via the support chat (bubble at the bottom right inside Kalent), and include:

    • The exact LinkedIn URL of the profile you were trying to import

    • The name of the destination sourcing

    • The approximate time of the import attempt

4. If the problem persists, ask to speak to a human

If, despite verifying your LinkedIn connection and retrying the import, the problem still persists, contact our support via the chat and explicitly ask to speak to a human. A team member can then investigate server-side (enrichment logs, profile state in our database, known ongoing issue, profile not found on LinkedIn, etc.) and walk you through to full resolution.
